Kate Kiker (She/Her), LPC-Associate, Supervised by Kimberly Benedict, LPC-S

Kate Kiker (Buckner) is a LPC-Associate, licensed and providing telehealth services in the state of Texas. She is supervised by Kimberly Benedict, LPC-S. Her work as a counselor is to provide a space for clients to slow down, to learn to listen, trust, and believe in themselves.

Kate is a humanistic counselor and believes people change when they are accepting of themselves and receive genuine support. She relies heavily on Mindful Self-compassion interventions and has researched the topic extensively, even conducting her own study with resources awarded after becoming a McNair Scholar during her undergrad. She believes we often become highly critical of ourselves when we make a mistake, react poorly, or behave in ways that we are not proud of, and can start to suspect there is something “wrong” with us or that we are not “enough” somehow. Relating to ourselves with understanding and kindness in these moments can be the hardest thing, but can help us heal. Instead of shaming ourselves for struggling, we develop compassion and know that anyone who has gone through what we have may struggle in these same ways, too. It is never too late to address our emotional pain, learn new patterns, new skills, and truly work with ourselves instead of against. Kate pulls from other techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, polyvagal theory, the Gottman method, and attachment theories.

Kate works with individuals, families and couples and specializes in difficulties such as high self-criticism, perfectionism, issues with people pleasing/boundaries/codependency, no-contact relationships, childhood trauma, emotional reactivity, and grief. She mostly works with individuals experiencing anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, OCD), mood disorders (depression, bipolar), trauma disorders (PTSD, c-PTSD, Acute Trauma), and complicated grief.

Kate received her B.S. in Psychology and M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Development both from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. She is originally from Kansas but has made Texas her home for the last ten years. When she is not seeing clients you can find her on the farm where she lives surrounded by animals, playing her guitar, or reading.

Kate accepts private pay clients at $85 per session. She is also able to accept Cigna and Aetna Insurance.
